So, my ultimate plan for this series is to eventually end it with a united team of the horror creatures and monsters.
A team comprised of...
Vampires
Werewolves
Sasquatches
Were-Sasquatches
Demons
Fallen Angels
Ghosts
Snake People
Dragon
Cyborgs
Clowns
Humanoid Abominations
Evil Fairies
Ogres

Etc...

There are teams of aliens, humans and meta-humans, so why not?

That's a lovely idea. But well, I think a storyline like that should be I do not know "Dark Modern Fantasy."

In the sense there is strange, bizarre things. Open to your own "version" of said thing. And make it work. That sort of thing makes sense in the sense there is a "EXCUSE" for weird things like that to exist.

Really Dark Fantasy. But if you make said beings well, nice and friendly to humans and each other. It is more modern Fantasy.

The horror genre is mainly to scare the literal piss out of people. (Just my opinion.)

A good idea Guy. I've always toyed with the idea that what if your classic monsters say vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc are faced with a new brand of horror. Creepypasta/SCP Foundation level monsters, Lovecraftian Monsters, ETC. Would bring in a nice old vs new theme.

Just an idea I want to hand out to you guys Smile

Interesting thing about that is that is my intention concerning NuCarmilla tongue Don't worry it wont spawn a Darkness Induced Audience Apathy situation and it wont be grim dark for the sake of grim dark. Also it wont be taking the "Torture Porn" scenario like Hostile or Saw. It's more influenced off of the John Carpenter style of horror with some other old school horror stuff. With some creepy pasta influences.

I think it would also be best to make this separate from the other NuCAU stuff given how different this is going to be in comparison to NuCAU's stuff.

The only things I will NOT STAND FOR ARE.

1: Torture. Especially torture porn: Yes, I am graphic, I am violent, I am not nice in the dark parts of fiction. But I believe torture, is a truly evil thing to do.

I may kill things violently, but I always try to make it "QUICK."

2: Rape: Do I honestly have to explain this? I do not think so.

Examples btw:

Night Side stories by Simon R Green (I think) : That's Modern Fantasy example. Because things are just plain weird. With sci fi and magic. Hence this is a example of modern Fantasy.

Hellboy Universe: MODERN DARK FANTASY. Hellboy is well the titled guy who's fate is to destroy creation, their are ghosts who kill people by tearing them to pieces and has non humans working with humans to keep the world safe. Dark Fantasy at it's best.

Horror: Well, just think of any scary story out there. Like, IT for example. Because the heroes, are well, human. Who must go against something REALLY SCARY.

The best case of Horror stories with party/league elements in my opinion? The World of Darkness games. Only because there are rules to follow that makes your character have some form of sanity/humanity, and trying to keep it. While, existing as a non human.

My personal fav horror stuff?

Carpenter/David Chorenburg's (Sp?) "Body Horror" stuff.

Also Hitchcock (The man knew how to make things intense as Hell!)

Ripley Scott when he did "Alien" earns a rank in my spot. Hell, Blade Runner despite being a detective story in Cyberpunk, was scary. In the sense that *ANYTHING* could be man made. Including people. Hence.. "Who is REAL!?" Not to mention the "Bad guys" did what they did, because they did not want to die. (Too bad his new films are not the same.)

James Cameron can be scary when he wants to be. (The Abyss? It COULD have been a horror movie, but the aliens were friendly. But seriously, at first.. They were creepy as Hell!)

And the Terminator? Came from Cameron's nightmares.

Hell I am a huge Lovecraft fan, in the sense he invented the "Cosmic Horror Story." Both he and King are freakken masters.

Lovecraft did a story about a COLOR, from OUTTER SPACE. A KILLER COLOR!! And it killed things via radiation. King did a story about evil DUST BUNNIES and made it scary.

I thought Wes's stuff is good. (Nightmare, Scream1, and Red Eye. Red Eye though, had a very interesting twist. So that one could be consider "Thriller." Which is a sub genre of horror.)

Also whoever did 28 Days Latter was a damn genius. What I found scary? Jim, after the hospital stuff walks in London. And.. THERE IS NO ONE THERE!!!!!!! With the music and all that lonely stuff, yeah. Made me think a little of it.

Also a fan of the first two Hellraiser movies.

Oh I agree completely on those two points. When I'm doing a dark story myself even I can get vicious but theres always a point behind my viciousness. Also when I do a dark story I would try to have the characters involve at least be sympathetic. Yes I believe in flawed characters but I also believe in that even the flawed characters have some redeeming qualities otherwise you'd just want to rood for some kind of cosmic force to wipe the universe out.

Also I never do rape in my stories. Even if I do I always try to make sure it's not for cheap shock value

As far as recommendations go.

An American Werewolf In London: If you're a fan of werewolf movies then this is the movie for you. It has got to be bar none the best film about werewolves I have ever seen.

Evil Dead Series: Yeah while the later half is a comedy it can be looked at as a Lovecraftian kind of story of what happens when you unlock things that should not be unlocked

Event Horizon: The most underrated Cosmic Horror Story ever and a better Doom movie than the actual Doom movie

Psycho: The original black and white one. Not the abomination remake

The Lost Boys: In some ways I truly believe this and Evil Dead is what inspired The Buffy series

30 Days of Night: It redefined vampires IMO. In 30 Days Of Night they weren't some leather clad wearing euro vamps but something that can be close to Lovecraftian like.

Fright Night: The Original is Evil Dead but with Vampires

The Thing: I've only come to see the John Carpenter's remake and if you guys have read my comments about the movie in Casual Discussions then you know my personal feelings about the movie

IT: The novel more than the movie. Stephen King outdid himself by taking something that's already scary in, a clown, then turn it into something that can only come from the mind of Lovecraft himself

Hellblazer: The comics in general depicts modern fantasy in it's finest

Anything by Neil Gaiman

The Wicker Man: No not the Nicholas Cage one Evil or Very Mad Appropriately depicts how corrupt humanity can be towards a morally questionable belief system.

At this point you guys can see I've watched a lot of horror movies Razz

I have seen them films. I think they are quite good. And yes IT the Novel is my most favorite horror book I have ever read.

The very notion something so evil that eats kids, and makes them scared to taste sweeter.

And it morphs into your fears makes it creepy.

Edit: I LOVE Neil Gaiman's stuff.

Only read one Hellblazer comic. It was John's birthday, and Swamp Thing made him weed as a present.

But yeah, good tastes over all. As for me, it was a mix of everything. Action, Horror, sci fi, comedy... Never got into westerns till I was older. (And I see why their praised.) Mainly because I grew up in the middle of no where. (Literally.) Hence I can think of such horrible things in woods, was in that kind of environment.

You also can look at it like IT has an adult feat to it. In some cases I tend to find IT more scary than Freddy. As far as my favorite genre goes when growing up as a kid I was more into action movies, still am. Same goes with sci-fi and comedy. I didn't get into westerns till I was in my teens and it was Mr.Eastwood that made me a fan of westerns with his Man With No Name trilogy.

An idea brainstorm I have ever since checking out some of Chou's stuff and looking at my recent RP.

How do you guy's feel about turning the We Are The Night RPG into an RPG where we post horror stories? Either random short ones like Chou and I have recently or horror series like the one involving Laura that I'm writing or the one involving Erik? Would be something that could really separate it from the other CAU RPG's.

BTW a little heads up the direction of where I'm taking the NuCarmilla story would involve a rather different take on the vampire genre.

That could work. Do some individual stories for the characters and gradually work towards a shared universe?

I like the idea of it being a collection of short scary movies.

Like the Twilight Zone, Outter Limits, or Tales from the Crypt, but here.
